I believe it is an honor and privilege to be able to sit with a person and hear their story and to be given the opportunity to try to help them. I believe in treating people with courtesy and respect, and treating them the way I would want to be treated. I believe you are the expert about your own life. I take a collaborative approach to therapy, meaning you and I will work together to find what works for you. To that end, I utilize a variety of counseling techniques and customize your treatment to you individually, with your input, and with your specific goals in mind.

I work with adults who are struggling with a variety of problems and issues. My office is private and comfortable, and individual sessions usually last 60 minutes. Couple sessions typically last for 75 minutes. Depending on your needs and availability, EMDR sessions may also last longer, up to 75 minutes per session. I accept private pay clients, and take some major insurance plans, such as BCBS, United, and Cigna. (Please call your insurance company to verify insurance coverage and eligibility.) I also offer fees on a sliding scale in some cases, so please don't let finances stop you from getting the counseling you need. In most cases, I can work with you to find a payment option you can afford. I do offer discounted rates for first responders, and veterans. Please call for more information and to see if you are eligible.

I am a nationally certified licensed professional counselor ("LPC") and certified EMDR practitioner in Aledo, Texas. I have a bachelor's degree in psychology and two Masters degrees - one in child development and one in professional counseling. I have additional training in various counseling areas and techniques, mostly in trauma recovery and trauma-informed care, as well as couple and relationship therapy. I have worked with people of all ages, and in different settings, including psychiatric hospitals, non-profit agencies, and in private practice. I strive to stay current on the newest counseling research and techniques. I am currently a member of several associations, including the American Counseling Association, the Texas Counseling Association, the North Central Texas Counseling Association, EMDRIA, and AASECT.
Many people have the idea that trauma can only occur if you've been to war, had a horrible accident, or experienced some sort of disaster. These events are certainly considered traumatic, but there are also other types of trauma, for example physical or emotional neglect, being ignored or criticized constantly, or witnessing someone else being harmed. Most people don't think of this as trauma, but it actually can be. Trauma is "traumatic" if the person experiencing it feels overwhelmed by it or helpless to do anything about it. In other words, trauma can be different for different people.
For people who have experienced any kind of trauma and/or abuse, these events can affect them months and even years later. Anxiety, anger, depression, fear, and hopelessness are a few emotions that can linger after traumatic events. But things can get better. I can help you overcome these symptoms and gently guide you through the process of healing. You are not broken and there is hope.
One of the specialized treatment approaches I use is Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy. I am an EMDRIA certified EMDR practitioner, which means that I have had additional training and experience beyond the basic training in EMDR therapy. This type of therapy has been shown to be especially effective for trauma/PTSD, and is an approved treatment method for veterans, first responders, and sexual assault survivors, as well survivors of many other types of abuse and trauma. People generally like this type of therapy because it does not require them to talk in detail about what they've experienced and they usually see results much more quickly than in "talk" therapy. Together, we can discuss your treatment goals and decide if EMDR might be right for you. For more information about EMDR, take a look at the EMDRIA website, or watch this YouTube video (Courtesy of EMDR International Association).
Relationships are crucial to us as human beings, but many of us find it challenging to navigate our most intimate relationships. Life stressors, infidelity, sexual concerns, communication issues, parenting issues, and many other problems can come between ourselves and our partner. Unfortunately, there is no manual that comes with the marriage license or relationship agreement. It's okay to ask for help. These things can be difficult to talk about, but I try to create a safe and respectful space where everyone feels comfortable and free to express themselves. Together we can work on reclaiming or establishing for the first time the closeness and connection you desire for your marriage or relationship.
Depression and anxiety are two of the most common issues that bring people to counseling. People suffering from depression and/or anxiety often feel that no one will understand what they are going through and that nothing can help. But, counseling can help and things can get better. There IS hope.
I do not believe that a person with substance abuse and/or addictions is a personal failure, that the person is weak, or that there is no hope for them. Often, it is more about what has happened to them than what is "wrong" with them. This is where I can help. Utilizing a variety of therapeutic options and an individualized treatment plan, my goal is to help you heal and set aside your addiction and need to use substances once and for all.
Substance abuse and addiction affect not only the addicted person, but the person's family, work, friends, and many other parts of their life. Addiction causes so much pain to so many people, but there is a way out of addiction. Please don't wait any longer. Get help today and start living the life you want.
I offer a variety of evidence-based counseling services, including EMDR therapy and trauma-informed therapy, sex and couple therapy, client-centered therapy, Internal Family Systems therapy, Gottman Relationship Therapy, and cognitive-behavioral therapy.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, or EMDR, is a type of therapy that is often used in cases of trauma, PTSD and/or abuse, but has also found to be helpful for other issues, including anxiety, OCD, grief, depression, substance abuse issues, and others. It can be used with people of any age. Click below to visit the website of the founder of EMDR therapy.
